Department of Geography is a part of College of Education at Garmian University. It is founded in 2004, at Kalar town as one of the centers of geographical research and education in Iraqi Kurdistan Region.

The Department of Geography at the University of Garmian offers the B.A. in geography and emphasizes the integration of human and physical geography and encourages the use of geospatial technologies including GIS, cartography, remote sensing and computational analysis. As a consequence, it is researching and teaching across three core strands of the discipline - Human Geography, Physical Geography, and Geographic Information Science (GIS).
